FAQ

How much does video production cost?

This is a tough question to answer and depends on the complexity of your brief! Essentially, a video will cost as much or as little as you want, because you set the budget. And that will be determined by the content you need to achieve the goals you’re aiming for.

The first step is to compile THE BRIEF. This helps us understand your needs. Keep it short, but identify the following:

  • What is the aim of the video? To inform, sell or motivate?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What is the message you want to convey? What you want to say and to whom, will form the basis of your script.
  • Where will the film be shown? Website, Social Media, trade shows, DVD?
  • What is your timescale? When will the film need to be delivered by?
  • Do you have any specific requirements? Motion graphics, special effects or full animation?
  • Budget? It’s good to have an idea of what you want to spend.
  • How do you want the video to look? This is called the “treatment”. Have you seen something that you like? Think about a Voiceover and Music style.
  • Filming? What is the availability of staff, locations and resources?

We appreciate that commissioning a video can be a little daunting so we have set out below the key questions that will help you through the process. Then fill out our Enquiry Form opposite and we will be happy to send you an outline quotation.

Also, do you need us to promote your content via blogging, social marketing or PR? Rest assured, we provide exceptional value for money, whatever your requirements. (See ‘Video marketing and SEO’)

What if I have no idea what I want for my video?

Some clients will have a clear idea of what they want but more often than not they simply want to promote themselves and are unsure as to how. This is normal and an enjoyable part of our service is to work this all out for you. Following an initial meeting, we would present you with an estimate to include a couple of concepts we feel will position your brand in the best light, so you can choose a concept that you are happy with. We can also write a script, if required. (See ‘what sort of videos should we make’?)

What if I have a very specific brief for my video?

We are very happy to work to your specific requirements. This is your video and we want to provide you with the best possible service and the best quality product at the end. We will always take time to ensure we understand your needs and keep you informed every step of the way so that your finished video is one you love.

What sort of videos should we make?

Explainer or promotional homepage videos provide a cost-effective solution to explaining who you are, what you do and what you offer. They drive traffic to your homepage and create a strong first impression. If you don’t already have one and can only afford to invest in a single video, this is the sort of video we recommend.

Also very effective are branded video content – effectively sales videos for a product or service you provide. This can be a fun animation to communicate via your social media network or real life actuality where we delve deeper into your brand products or service. We can help you create valuable and meaningful dialogue to give your customers greater understanding of your brand and achieve a direct response from your audience.

Or, have you thought about a mini documentary series for your YouTube Channel? We can help you to produce compelling documentaries – telling real stories CAN make a difference to your business! What case studies do you have?

Because trust is so important, testimonial and case study videos are also popular. Or you might consider video profiles of your founder or your key staff, or a regular video blog.

How long will it take to make my video?

This will depend on a variety of factors – such as how detailed your requirements are, how many locations you want to show, how long you want the final video to be, whether you require actors, or a presenter and more. Generally, we will film in one or two locations and can usually deliver within

2-3 weeks after the shoot, or if it is a video animation, we can usually turn this around within 4-6 weeks.

What would a promotional video do for me?

Having your own promotional video gives you a versatile and powerful marketing tool that can be used in a variety of ways to promote your business and services, with the potential to reach a vast amount of people.

It could be featured on your website and also be used to spread the word via social network sites such as Facebook, YouTube or Twitter. More and more people are looking for video as a way of seeing what a company has to offer. We will even host your video on our own website and YouTube channel at no extra cost. You could use your film to advertise in your reception area, or email them as part of virtual mail outs or create a video brochure to hand out at trade shows; maybe send them to potential or existing clients.

Your video can keep new customers interested by showing why what you offer is better than your competitors and existing customers content in knowing how well you are doing or what new services and offers are coming up.

There’s also scope for TV Advertising, which doesn’t have to be expensive and can make a fantastic addition to this feature, giving your business an extra boost in credibility. Our background in television enables us to offer a bespoke service at competitive prices.

What is an SEO video?

A video designed to boost your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) standing. Once it’s on YouTube you are exposing your video to the second largest search engine after Google and incorporating video and images on your landing pages will often rank higher! In order to boost your rankings on search engines we meta tag all our video productions using the most appropriate keywords for your organisation. Equally importantly, we will work with you to ensure that your video is memorable and gets your message through to your audience.

What is the difference between an SEO video & a promotional video?

In essence an SEO video can often be a promotional video but it is tailored to boost your SEO potential and is thus planned and meta tagged with this in mind. A promotional video is tailored to highlight the plus side of using your services above others. It will show off your best assets and perhaps provide an example of your work and contact details. What makes your brand unique?

The SEO video could be on a subject which somehow relates to the trade you are in and may be of interest to someone looking into that subject, who by seeing your video is indirectly made aware of what you have to offer. Our services can help you to plan and produce a mini documentary Webseries to bring your brand to life!

Can I have animation and motion graphics?

Yes, that’s no problem – see below. Our animation and motion graphics guru Miguel Letang can create anything you want. Have a look at his animation and motion graphics showreel.

What is green screen or chroma key?

A green screen or blue screen is a single-colour backdrop for filming in front of. This backdrop can then be easily replaced in post-production with just about anything. Want your presenter to dance on the moon? No problem! We just film them in front of our green screen, take a separate shot of the moon and then combine the two in the edit suite. One click makes the green disappear leaving us with a ‘cut-out’ of the presenter who we can stand on that cloud. In fact we can put that cut-out presenter anywhere you can imagine! See our example motion graphics video above.

Why do you use DSLR cameras for video?

Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras have revolutionised the way video is captured by enabling the affordable capture of full HD video using the extensive variety of lenses available for such cameras. This in turn enables filming in low light, or from longer ranges and generally produces sharper and more varied shots. Another advantage is the solid state of the SD cards used to store the video, these are more stable and secure than their tape based counterparts.

Do I need to worry about copyright?

Use of logos, products etc: As long as it’s your business, product, concept or logo you want us to feature, there is no problem here.

Use of music: With regards to music choices, we tend to use non-mainstream artists, some of whom ask simply for a credit at the end of the video. On occasions where a small cost is incurred (for example if you require a particular type of music, which we cannot access for free), we would factor this into any quotes we do for you. When wishing to use mainstream music, the price of the licenses increase dramatically and they are often limited to a year’s use, so do bear this in mind when making your choice of track/s.

What format will my finished video be?

We can output your video into almost any format you might require and using most mediums. For example if you want a windows friendly WMV file that can be shared online or printed on to DVD – no problem, or you might want an FLV to load into your Flash player on your website, we can do it. Maybe you need small file for email AND a large file for high quality viewing on a big screen – then this is also no problem, we can export the file in virtually any codec, or file type and present it in numerous, flexible formats depending on your requirements. As part of the service we will optimise your videos for YouTube.

My son/brother/grandma’s got a video camera so…

This comes up a lot, and to a degree, you’d be right. A D-I-Y video is obviously going to be a cheap option – but it may not be the right one. If it looks amateurish, then so will your company. However, if you have done your own filming and it’s turned out well, we’ll be happy to edit it together for you, and tweak it to look as good as possible.
